My boys have reached a milestone today

Each of my boys has to read a certain number of minutes each day to satisfy school requirements.  Normally this isn’t that big of a deal because they like to read and are generally pretty good at it, except for the fact that they like to read the same books over and over again.  I tried encouraging them to read something new, especially some of my old favorites, but they keep returning to the same books even sneaking them when I wasn’t looking.  I’m not going to lie, I was a little proud that they enjoyed a book so much that they would prefer that over a new one but I wanted them to expand a little.  In an effort to get them reading something new I let them peruse one of my treasured books  The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Collection, under close supervision of course.  Bibliochild1 loved it and even read a few strips to Bibliochild2.  I could hear them giggling in the next room and it brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

    i used to read the same thing over and over. that is until mom found them and threw them away.

To the whiney lady at the bar last week.

OK I get it; you’ve been waiting to place your order. I know that I have been helping the cocktail servers, dinner servers and the manager, ignoring you in the process. I apologize that I helped the person closest to me after making 15 drinks for a table in the restaurant, I was not aware that you arrived before he did. I understand that the other bartender has ignored you as well because he is stuck at the other end of the bar where 10 other people are shouting at him. I’m sorry it has taken me 5 minutes to get to you, even though the first thing out of your cake hole was “I’ve been waiting for 15 minutes and you helped that other….yadda yadda…” But…..if you are going to bitch and moan about me being busy and wasting your time on your friends birthday when it’s your turn to buy rounds, you had better make damn sure that you know what you want to when I ask. I never understood ‘Business Casual’

Let me start out by stating that I hate, hate, hate business and business casual dress. I feel uncomfortable, stuffy and self conscious all day long. There are some people who tend to do well in slacks and a button down shirt. For example, FCJ seems to be very comfortable in the monkey suit that he has to wear to the office and if I remember correctly has been known to wear a similar costume when not in the office. Others like Captn. Punc. have only to don dress pants or slacks (I still don’t know the difference) during special events that require him to do so (i.e. he was told to do so). I believe the last time he had to wear them was during his wedding and I strongly suspect he had on jeans underneath. As for myself, the first thing I do when I get home is go change into something more to my liking, usually used-to-be blue jeans or lounge pants if I am not planning on going out again.
