Quote of the day...

While showing our dear old mother the video of "Chocolate Rain" (because everyone needs to see it once) I came across one of my favorite quotes to date. "Some kids hit puberty, but this guy beat the shit out of it" Chocolate Rain Mom didn't like the video. I think her exact words were " 'sigh'... oh Funnelcake..." then she walked out of the room -FCJ

To Girl That Sits Next To Me At Work

... I know, I know... You have been doing this job for seven years. I know that none of the five locations that you have worked at in those seven years have respected you enough to want to keep you for any extended period of time. I know that when you complain constantly no one, for some inexplicable reason, gives you the time of day anymore. I know that the managers should never ever ever ever ask anyone to move their desk because of the job function that they hold and the fact that it would be better for the branch to operate at optimal levels (who wants that anyways). And I known that anyone younger than you should never ever know more than you. It's just that, well, no one likes you. I will try to put this as nicely as I possibly can: You are a bitch and everyone around you is tired of it. Please learn that when someone is on the phone with a customer in front of them the fact that your printer isn't set up correctly is not my problem until after they leave. Please learn th...

I am the special news bulletin that interrupts your favorite show!

I am fascinated with words and routinely marvel at the descriptive power that they hold.  I Admit that I don't have the spelling skills that my mother and father were possessed with but that never stopped me from stretching my vocabulary as far as I could.  In my eagerness to use as many polysyllabic words as possible in my vernacular that I would often insert new words into sentences in places where they didn't belong drawing confused looks from those nearby.   Sometimes I would get fairly obsessive about where the words come from or when they were first used which lead to some interesting facts that I could add to my ever increasing collection of useless information.  I briefly entertained the idea of studying linguistics but quickly realized that I didn’t carry the testicular fortitude* and eventually abandoned that idea, forever guaranteeing my amateur status in wordsmithing.  Much of this behavior can be traced back to our parents  who loved to ...

I like unicorns. Deal with it.

I recently had a conversation with a co-worker where in which I mentioned that I just purchased a copy of The Last Unicorn .  She actually stopped mid stride, “Unicorns? I didn’t peg you for the unicorn type.” Then shook her head and walked away.  “Wait a minute,” I yelled. “You don’t understand, it’s not a book just about unicorns.  There’s a bull made of fire and magicians.” She gave me a suspicious grin “…and it just happens to have unicorn in the title?” “Well yes, it is about a king who is gathering all the unicorns in the world because it is the only thing that makes him happy.” “So….he collects unicorns to make him happy” “That’s correct, but…” I start. “Are they pink fluffy unicorns?” she asks while stifling a giggle. “White with a periwinkle mane.” (I was referencing the movie at this point). By now she is doubled over in laughter and I feel that the conversation has taken a dangerous turn towards humiliation.  “No dammit, listen.  The movie i...

Dad’s Journal

So I finally read Dad’s journal last night.    I’ve had it for about 3 months but just haven’t had the motivation to read it.   Maybe I wasn’t ready to see his hand writing or I just didn’t want to deal with the feelings that would inevitably be involved but the journal has been on my desk in a plastic bag just waiting. I placed the book in a highly visible area so that I would see it often and be reminded of its existence.   Last night was polishing off a bottle of sauvignon blanc (we used some of it for the chicken) I picked it up and decided to read. I was largely disappointed in what I found.   Apparently it was his spiritual journal and mostly contained notes from the bible study sessions that he attended.   Most of the content was fairly generic prayer request and what not but what really got me was the doodles and small notes that were interspersed among the ‘serious’ content. Words or names were written with flourishes or borders traced over an...
